Setting up product variants

Setting up product variants

One shirt in three sizes is one product, not three. Variants let a buyer land on one page and pick. This follows the editor in the order it asks.

Step 1. Turn on Variations

On the product form, go to Sales Information and switch Variations on. The Price and Stock fields are replaced by the variants editor, which opens in place.

Step 2. Name the type and add its values

In Variant type, name what changes, for example Size. In Variant value, type each choice and press Enter: S, M, L.

Note. Switch on Use image for this variant if each value should show its own photo, such as one per colour.

Step 3. Fill in the Variants table

A Variants table builds underneath, one row per value.

  • Price (RM). Required on every row.
  • SKU. Optional, your own code.
  • Stock. What you have of that one.
  • Weight (kg). Required on every row. Use the packed weight.
  • Active. Whether buyers can choose it.

The Weight (kg) field under Shipping is gone. Each variant carries its own.

On a phone each variant is a card, not a table row. The fields are the same.

Step 4. Add a second type

If you sell by two things at once, press Add variant and name the second type, for example Colour. Every combination becomes a row.

Check every row again. Stock starts at 0 on all the new rows. Some keep the price and weight you entered, and others start with no weight.

Step 5. Change many rows at once

Tick the rows you want, or the box in the header for all of them. A bar appears above the table. Enter a Price (RM), a Stock, or both, and press Apply.

Step 6. Turn a variant off, or remove it

Out of a size for a while? Switch Active off. The row stays with its price and SKU, and buyers cannot choose it.

Removing a value removes every variant that uses it. If those rows hold anything, you are asked first.

Common questions

Why will the product not save?

A message says which. Usually a row is missing its price or weight, which is outlined in red, or a type has no name or no values.

A size shows as out of stock but I have it.

Check the Stock on that variant's row. With Variations on, stock is counted per variant.

Where did the Weight field go?

Into the table. Each row has its own Weight (kg).
