Setting up a discount, and which kind to use
There are four kinds of promotion in Berkedai, and the one you pick is the first thing the form asks for. Picking the wrong one is not fatal, but it is awkward, because the kind cannot be changed after the discount is created. This is the short version of which one does what.
Where it is
Open Discounts, then Create discount in the top corner. The page you land on is headed New discount. Only the shop owner can reach this screen. A staff member you have added can work orders and update stock, but discounts are not theirs.
The four kinds
The first card on the form is Promotion Kind, and it holds four tiles.
Standard takes a percentage or a ringgit amount off the products you name. This is the plain one, and most of the time it is the right one. Raya sale, clearing old stock, ten percent off one range.
Bundle is buy a quantity, get a percentage off. Use it when you want a bigger basket rather than a lower price per item. Three of anything in the promotion, fifteen percent off.
Buy X Free Y gives extra units of the same product free. Buy two, get one. Use it when the stock is cheap to give and the buyer understands the offer without reading twice.
Buy X Get Gift gives a different product free, and you can set tiers: buy three get one gift, buy six get two. Use it to move something slow, or to give a sample of something you want people to try. The gift comes out of its own stock, and the buyer gets it once per order.
Pick on the job, not on the discount that sounds biggest. The percentage one is easy to compare and easy to understand. The gift one gets a product into someone's hands, which is a different kind of win.
The kind is fixed once you save
This is the part worth knowing before you start. After the discount is created, the kind cannot be changed. The edit screen shows which kind it is rather than offering you four, and tells you that switching means retiring this discount and creating a new one.
Retiring it does not mean deleting it. The edit screen has a Status switch, and an inactive discount will not apply at checkout. Turn it off, build the replacement, and you still have the old one to look at. Deleting is also there in the list if you want it gone.
Everything else is editable. Just not the kind.
Details
Promotion Name is for you, not for the buyer. The form says so under the field, and it is worth believing. "Raya 2026 bakery 15pc" is a good name. "BIG SALE" is a name you will not recognise in four months when you are looking at a list of them.
Schedule has two rows. Starts is either Now or On a date. Ends is either Never or On a date. Picking a date opens a date and time picker, so a sale can begin at nine in the morning rather than at midnight.
Never is a real option and a reasonable one for a standing offer. For anything tied to a season, set the end date while you are here. A discount with no end is a discount you will forget, and the day you remember it is usually the day someone points out they got last year's price.
Which products it applies to
Every discount names its products. There is no shop wide switch that catches everything. The What they buy section is where you add them, through Add Products, and the count sits next to the heading so you can see what you have selected.
That is the thing to watch when you add a new product later. It does not join an existing promotion on its own. If you add a new flavour in the middle of a sale and want it included, go back into the discount and add it.
For a Standard discount the What they get section holds Discount Type, either Percentage (%) or Fixed Amount (RM), and Discount Value. A percentage cannot go above one hundred. The other three kinds put their own fields here instead: a bundle quantity, a buy and free quantity, or the gift tiers and the gift product.
Conditions, which are optional and worth one minute
The Conditions card is marked optional and most sellers leave it empty. Three fields, and each one answers a question you may not have thought to ask.
Minimum Quantity and Minimum Order Amount (RM) set a floor. No floor means the discount applies to an order of one item, which is sometimes exactly what you want and sometimes not.
Maximum Discount (RM) is the one worth a look on any percentage discount. It caps what the discount can take off a single order. Twenty percent off is fine on an RM50 order. On an RM800 order it is a number you may not have pictured when you typed the twenty.
Then save it
Save Discount is in the top corner. If something required is missing you will be told which field, and the discount is not created until it passes.
One thing to check afterwards. Open your storefront and look at the product as a buyer sees it. A discount that reads clearly on the product page is doing its job. A discount nobody notices is a discount you have given away for nothing.
